The Walking the Middle Path course helps parents learn how to find a balanced, flexible approach in their thinking, communication, and relationships.
This course introduces the idea of dialectics—the ability to hold two seemingly opposite ideas at the same time. For example, “My teen is doing the best they can and they need to do better.” It’s not about being indecisive or passive—it’s about moving away from black-and-white thinking and toward more nuanced, effective responses.
By learning to walk the middle path, you can:
Reduce conflict and misunderstandings
Validate each other’s perspectives without necessarily agreeing
Make space for both acceptance and change
This course is especially helpful in families where communication gets stuck in power struggles or emotional extremes. As parents, you’ll learn practical tools to stay grounded, respond more calmly, and model balanced thinking—skills that help build trust, respect, and connection at home.
The course is designed to stand alone, so your teen does not have to be in therapy. However, if they are receiving DBT I would recommend liasing with their therapist so that you do this course while they are working on Walking the Middle Path themselves.
